We’re delighted to announce that acclaimed Australian actress Geraldine Hakewill is playing the lead role of Anna in Bill Bennett’s new Camino movie, The Way, Her Way.
The film is a follow-up to Bill’s highly successful movie The Way, My Way, which made nearly $2.5m at the Australian and New Zealand theatrical box office in 2024, playing in some cinemas for twenty weeks. The film subsequently was released theatrically in the US, Canada, and multiple other territories world wide. In Italy, the film played in cinemas for nine months.
Maslow Entertainment and Marc Wooldridge are once again on board for ANZ distribution.
Says Marc: The Way, Her Way promises to be even more commercial than its predecessor. It will be the first ever Camino based feature film about a woman’s experience … and this time it’s set on the Portuguese Camino.
More women than men walk the Camino, and women will particularly relate and emotionally connect with the heart, humour and life changing experience conveyed within this uplifting story … and they will bring their friends, partners and family with them.
The Way, Her Way tells the story of Anna, aged thirty-nine, who learns on her fifteenth wedding anniversary that her husband is leaving her for his twenty-three year old para-legal.
Confused and traumatised, Anna hears about the Camino and impulsively decides to walk it, with zero preparation and not knowing what the Camino is.
But through the pilgrims that she meets and the hardships she endures and ultimately overcomes along the Way, she begins to undergo a fundamental transformation.
When her husband unexpectedly turns up begging for another chance, Anna must choose: return to the marriage, or strike out on her own — empowered by what the Camino has taught her.
Geraldine Hakewill and Bill Bennett worked together sixteen years ago on Bill’s supernatural thriller, Uninhabited, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2010.
The film will shoot on the Portuguese Camino till mid November, then Australia for a further week. It’s expected to hit cinemas in May next year.
