Julian has sent through a new post – he’s now got all his gear, and he’ll be a black caped crusader! He will be very distinctive on the Camino!  Here’s his post –

JULIAN LORD:

Well, here’s my kit.

Taken me a year to gather all this, and well you don’t need to be a genius to guess which colour I like best …

But cripes, black hat is just noooooooo, the backpack is the Sister’s, and black sleeping bag is also nooooooooo ….

Awesome BLACK socks just arrived today, so my collection is now complete — the white paper thingy is my beautiful Compostela map ; don’t have my Credencial yet. Also carrying the French liturgical Bible (in photo), a BLACK Smartphone, BLACK camera, and my stainless steel hip flask — engraved:

“Not all those who wander are lost”

Weight ? Who cares ?
I have a BLACK PILGRIM CAPE !!!!

  1. Sweet! You have upped the ante for those pilgrims in their beige and khaki camino-wear.

    I have gone a different route. I have tried to find as many different colors of things as I can. Unfortunately, I gravitate toward green, and most walking/hiking stuff is beige and khaki, but I’m trying to go colorful. Maybe pink socks. Do Wrightsocks come in pink? Hmmm.

  5. Hi everybody,

      I will be walking big part of the Camino with Julian in colors : Pink, Violet, green(same than Bill´s scarf) and and a bright yellow cap, and a security bright fluo yellow jacket that some fellow pigrims called their beckon.

    So I will lighten Julians´gear. And it will be easy for him to spot me , just in case i got lost.

    • Marie-Do, I’m not sure how tall you are, but we’ll form quite the odd pair !!!

      I hope we’ll catch up with each other sooner rather than later along the Way, and BTW I’d actually quite like to get to Muxia at least once in my pilgrim’s career …

      but hmmmmm, I’m sure the Camino will provide, as always, and the very fact that a year after we first discussed the great unlikelihood that we’d ever walk together, here we are both embarking at exactly the same time for the long journey there and back again …

      BTW I think your sandals will be fine for most of the Way, but you might need to start looking for a better pair of closed shoes — they should be light and strong and big enough, perhaps one size larger than your normal shoe size ?

      Cold wet weather is always a possibility in Galicia, and I suppose we’ll be spending about 3 weeks there … then of course, once we’re past Logroño in the other direction, it’ll be late enough in the year that all sorts of weather might be possible.

      I do hope you find a solution for your footwear worries !!!

  6. May God bless and protect you dear Jabba. I hope your knees don’t give you any trouble. Anyway, I look forward to reading your pilgrimage reports here on your friend’s blog whenever you manage to get to an internet connection.
    (Can’t help feeling like a bit of an intruder here, where everyone seems to know each other, and I only know you. 😉 )

        And yes, I’m also a pilgrim of the “Camino” (twice), having walked part of the traditional French route in 2004, and the Portuguese route three years later. 🙂
