Trip to US

Jennifer and I are coming to the US in less than 2 weeks now.

We’ll be in LA for a few days, then we’re driving north up through Oregon into Washington State, then across to Utah, then back to LA. All up about 4 weeks.

The trip is to speak to potential investors in my forthcoming PGS film, but if possible I would love to meet up with any of you that might be on our way, or near to where we’re going.

Already I’ve made some tentative arrangements to see a few of you.

My caveat is that the trip is for work, and so any arrangements would have to fit into a changing schedule – but if at all possible, it would be wonderful to meet some of you!

  4. Good Luck with the investors Bill and Jen, Look forward to seeing the film. Maybe your PGS will guide you in making PGS!
    We leave today for England with our daughter and grandchildren for a family holiday which includes a visit to our son in Antibes before embarking on our Camino Frances around June 10.

    I would love to meet up with you and Jen. If you are driving along the central coast I live north of Santa Barbara, close to San Luis Obispo. I hike all the mountains around San Luis and would to show you this part of the country!

    • Hi Debbie – it would be great to meet you! And that part of the world is very beautiful, up around where you live.

      I think though that we’re going to be taking the inland highway, because we have 2 days to get from Palm Springs to the Tri-Cities in Washington State, which is over twelve hundred miles. So I don’t think we’ll have the time. But let’s keep it loose – because it seems our schedule is changing all the time. It would be lovely to meet you though! Bill

        That is well over 1,000 miles from Palm Springs to tri cities! Two days – you won’t be able to enjoy the sights along the way. Dale and I would like to meet up with you as well. If you are coming thru Seattle or if not we will drive over the pass and see you and Jen in the Tri Cities.

        • Hi Lynda, that’s lovely of you! Let’s see how things fall though, because there’s a chance I might have meetings in Portland before I go to the Tri-Cities. In which case that’s closer to you, no? But until some meetings are set I’m not 100% sure. You live near Twin Peaks town, don’t you? That would be cool. Have some pie… 🙂

          • Portland or Tri Cities would be easy for us to get to. You could get to Tri Cities without going thru Seattle but if you do swing up this way it’s all freeway-faster driving. Was it Twin Peaks the movie or Twin Peaks the series that you liked? We faithfully watched the series and saw the movie. The restaurant that they speak of that has the “cherry pie and damn good cup of coffee” is less than 1 kilometer off the freeway. But the lodge that was used, I think they called it Northern something is about five kilometers off the freeway (Interstate 90) and they have a hotel, excellent restaurant and a quick trail down to the bottom of Snoqualmie Falls. I have a niece that lives in the golf club just near there. We could meet and take you to dinner……. I think they have white port…….
            Can you tell me what a minimum investor would be?

          • Ah – even the mention of White Port gives me a headache! I think we might have to stretch the drive out to three days. I think two days would be too much. And as I say, we might have at least one meeting in Portland. But it would seem a shame to be so close and not to meet!!   7. Like the kids say “AWESOME” – you’ll be driving through some absolutely stunning parts of the States and Lynda is so right that you won’t have (enough) time to enjoy all that nature. Nonetheless, I’ve no doubt you’ll have a great trip and hopefully time enough to meet up with at least some of the people who’d want to crowd your already busy schedule. Can’t wait for the photos (can’t imagine you’d not take the time for some of those!) and the stories. Enjoy 🙂

    I know that the US is a large place, but not sure that many Americans realise how very large Australia is and that we’re so used to driving very long distances (not being condescending here, but realistic in a robust Aussie way) so have no doubt the distances you need to cover won’t be a problem at all. At least at dusk and dawn you don’t have to worry about kangaroos bounding out at you. Would be interested to know what sort of road kill you’d meet on any of the back roads you might travel; gruesome, but hey a different cultural experience to write home about! 🙂

    • haha – you’re right Britta! It’s nothing for us to drive 600kms in a day. I might though have to spread out the miles a bit though, because as you say we will be driving through some amazing country, and yes I sure do want to take some photos!

      As for roos – well that last trip to Longreach was terrifying, with the roos. So bloody dangerous. But they tell me deer are a problem up there? I’d hate to hit a Bambi… 🙂 or Bambi’s mum or dad…

    • Hi bhasmah I had to smile at your interest in the roadkill. And it is so different from country to country. The saddest thing we saw in the States was a moose that had been hit by a Model T ford. Neither did very well. They had to put the moose down and tow the Model T. Donna

      • Dear Lynda, I can promise you that you’d definitely not be grinning if a kangaroo appeared in front of your – moving – car; absolutely not a good look 🙂 Unfortunately, if you drive on the secondary roads, as I did recently with a friend for an approx 3000 km (approx 1875 miles) round trip Sydney to Rockhampton in Queensland, you literally see 100s of kangaroo carcases on or near the side of the road. It’s mind-numbingly sad but there doesn’t seem to be anything anyone can do to stop the carnage. Mind you, I think I might enjoy seeing purple camels. Of course, if you travel through some of the inland parts of Australia, you’d see 10s of thousands of camels, although probably not coloured purple! 🙂

      When Dale and I were on the Camino, my husband kept telling me to think in kilometers not miles. Palm Springs to Tri Cities is 1832 kilometers. Divided into two days that’s over 900 kilometers a day. To me it is so funny to think of the possibility of seeing a kangaroo on the road. Reminds me of a road trip I took with a friend a long time ago. We were driving straight thru to LA from Seattle. Taking turns driving and sooooo tired. We finally stopped and slept in a rest stop as I swear I saw purple camels darting across the highway.

  8. Donna, Exactly what decade were you in the states? Also, don’t find moose in very many locals. Not common throughout most of the US. 🙂

      Went to Yellowstone National Park last year and they had BUFFALO walking down the streets. Hit one of those and you won’t ever have to worry about hitting anything else!! Tee Hee!
      In Snoqualmie and North Bend they are having real problems right now with herds of elk in neighborhoods and town. These towns are in the foothills of the Cascade Mts.

    • Steve it would have been New York State or Vermont. Perhaps it was a Canadian Moose that got lost.

      And yes….it was some time ago. 18 years in fact. But I’ve seen a lot of the States over the years. My dream is to go back to Zion, Arches etc and really explore those places.

    We live 90 minutes north of the Tri-Cities outside of Yakima.

    Just back from the Frances myself and catching up on both professional, house and yard work so I am a bit reluctant to waste your time promising that I could come down to the Tri-Cities. But, if you get a hard date, let me know.

    Shoot me an e-mail if you plan on heading up our way on your drive.

    We have room for you and Jen plus I cook pretty well. (Well… you might complain that I do not use enough olive oil. :>) )

    • Hi Brendan – thank you this! I know I won’t have time to head up your way – from Tri-cities we have to then drive to Utah – but I will let you know when I’ll be up that way. It would be great to meet you after all this time!
