  1. Steve’s ability to capture a look into one’s soul is amazing. The full post of these portraits is beautiful. Wish I could take pictures with 1/100th of his expertise. Each picture makes you wonder what the story is … beautiful!!

    • Seve – I recommended to Arlene the Nikon D3200. It’s a terrific little camera. There’s a new model out now – the D3300 – essentially the same beast, with a few updates. Good camera, and good kit lens with it. If you want something smaller and cheaper, (and lighter) then I always veer to the Fujifilm – either the X20 or X30 (the newest one.) I used the Fuji X10 on my last Camino, and loved it.

  2. One that you can teach me some stuff with. Of course I will never give up the convenience and ready availability of my iPhone, but I notice it is not so good in low light and showing true colors. Something like Arlene? Advice, please.

    • The iPhone is a neat little camera. And a lot of pros have taken very good shots with it. But it has it’s limitations of course, because it’s first and foremost a phone. One of the biggest limitations is that it’s a fixed lens – if you want to zoom, you have to do so digitally, which affects Image Quality. And you have no control over aperture or exposure.

  3. Thanks Bill.
I too, have subscribed to Steve McCurry’s blog. It is incredible. I use some of his images in my everyday teaching. They are very powerful and evoke quite deep and perceptive responses from the kids [ 10 and 11 year olds] Some of the conversations are amazing.
