I went for a walk today –
This came up on my playlist.
Thought of you Satan…
Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long, long year Stole many a mans soul and faith And I was round when jesus christ Had his moment of doubt and pain Made damn sure that pilate Washed his hands and sealed his fate Pleased to meet you Hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you Is the nature of my game I stuck around st. petersburg When I saw it was a time for a change Killed the czar and his ministers Anastasia screamed in vain I rode a tank Held a generals rank When the blitzkrieg raged And the bodies stank Pleased to meet you Hope you guess my name, oh yeah Ah, what's puzzling you Is the nature of my game, oh yeah I watched with glee While your kings and queens Fought for ten decades For the gods they made I shouted out, Who killed the kennedys? When after all It was you and me Let me please introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste And I laid traps for troubadours Who get killed before they reached bombay Pleased to meet you Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah But what's puzzling you Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby Pleased to meet you Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah But what's confusing you Is just the nature of my game Just as every cop is a criminal And all the sinners saints As heads is tails Just call me lucifer Cause I'm in need of some restraint So if you meet me Have some courtesy Have some sympathy, and some taste Use all your well-learned politesse Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah Pleased to meet you Hope you guessed my name, um yeah But what's puzzling you Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down Woo, who Oh yeah, get on down Oh yeah Oh yeah! Tell me baby, what's my name Tell me honey, can ya guess my name Tell me baby, what's my name I tell you one time, you're to blame... Sympathy for the Devil Rolling Stones
My rocker Mate, Bill,
Where do you come up with this stuff? I am listening to this on my computer as I write this comment, and I can truthfully say I have never heard this song, or if I did it did not leave a lasting memory. Now, No Satisfaction, that is a different story.
Your bland Mate, Steve

Ah Steve – classic Stones! And there’s a fantastic documentary by Jean Luc Goddard of the recording of the song.
Godard was at the forefront of the French New Wave of cinema, and is famous for his brilliant film, BREATHLESS.
LikeLike
Would I have seen that? I think I have been living under a rock.
LikeLike
It’s a very obscure film, and extremely weird too. The craziest “making of” film I’ve ever seen. Godard brings in these socialist revolutionaries that start killing people. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Stones recording the song. But Godard has always been seriously left field.

Steve, I think I’m under the same rock as you.

Apart from all that, it’s a great song!

Just never heard it. Remember, the Stones were for you what Elvis was to me. That 10 years difference in age means we had different rock idols. But, it is a known fact that Elvis fans are better looking than Stone’s fans.

It’s also known that they draw rain…

Yeah, well, that too. Just remember, you invited me to join you in Portugal.

Yes, that’s the reason I bought fully waterproof boots!

Now, what do we do about rain jackets that don’t form condensation????

You can buy a jacket with something called “Goretex.”
I believe it’s made in TEXas.

It’s in my boots and in yours too, probably. I think it was in my last rain jacket also but need to check. Trouble with most high end gore-tex jackets is they are too bulky. More research required. With the van along we can have a little extra gear.

I have Gortex everything. Even a Gortex toothbrush.

My sister is out at a local favorite garden store and just emailed me a picture of a front cover of a cookbook. It has paella and says Spain on the front. She is going back in to find the name and author for me. Now I am going to be drooling all day. Paella, Galacian soup and Santiago Cake. I am not going to get much done today while day dreaming.

Hey Bill and Steve,
Nothing to do with rain jackets, but I just learned of waterproof socks. A couple of APOC Chapter members were talking about them last Sunday. I’m going to get some for the tour.
My boots were waterproof and still my feet got wet; rain soaked my socks and that went down into the waterproof boots.
BTW, I’m under the same rock as Steve and Donna, never heard that song either! And being between Steve and Bill in age, I loved both the Stones and Elvis, go figure stuck in between 2 generations of music and loving both!

So is now the time to admit that I’m younger than all of you and I’m from the disco era!! Abba, Air Supply, Olivia etc.
And if I admit that my all time favourite is Michael Buble will I be officially kicked off the tour?
Can you give me some more details on the waterproof socks?? They sound interesting.
LikeLike
Donna,
I’m going to buy a pair when I get back from England to try them out. I’ll let you know then.
These people said even though their boots got wet, their feet stayed dry. They said they even were ankle deep in streams and stayed dry.

Plastic bags will do the same thing. I had my LOWA boots and smart wool socks and my feet never got wet. BTW, the smart wool socks cost $18 at REI and 4 for $11 at Cosco. For real.

yes, it’s funny steve – i see these incredibly expensive waterproof bags for cameras, and I just use a plastic bag.
Costs nothing – and keeps the rain out!!

Then you are perfect to verify that Elvis fans were better looking than Stones fans since you shared both. So there, Bill, conclusive results will soon be forthcoming.

Steve,
Being right in the middle, Elvis fans were surely better looking when I was in my teens and twenties.
But as I aged, I started finding the Stones fans better looking.
Now, I can appreciate handsome whether older or younger. Elvis or Stones good looking is good looking!

Bill! love the song and especially love how it must have struck you, as you heard it this time. We are all saints and sinners for sure! Love the various name dropping of the good old favorites! Yesterday the song Magic Carpet Ride, by Steppen Wolf, came on and I had to laugh and explained to my 17 yr old son that it was the very first record I bought, like the round black kind you play on a record player. I could only afford the single.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, grateful to get to occasionally participate in this circle of lively exchanges!
